Our History - Sydenham Auction Services was established in 1966 by Elwood Snider. Jim Snider's Sydenham Auction & Appraisal Services Inc., has extensive experience in the appraisal and auction profession, serving the private citizens and business community of Grey and Bruce Counties for over two decades. When Elwood Snider built the area's first auction facility in 1968, his idea and purpose was to provide a private facility for residents of the local community to place their personal property in a professional auction environment, on a consignment basis, to be sold by public auction. The business proved very popular among local residents, tourists and visitors alike. The business grew steadily over the years; additions and renovations were necessary to the original building to accommodate demand. In 1978, after being around auctions almost as long as he could remember, Jim Snider attended the Western College of Auctioneering in Billings, Montana and returned home to work in the family business with auctioneers (father) Elwood and (uncle) Lawrence Knaggs. Since the retirement and subsequent passing of both Elwood and Lawrence, Jim has kept Sydenham Auction Services progressing and evolving. In 1995, the name was changed to Sydenham Auction & Appraisal Services to more accurately reflect the scope of services provided. More recently, in 2000, the name "Jim Snider's Sydenham Auction & Appraisal Services Inc." was registered and ownership restructured to facilitate the construction of our new state-of-the-art Rockford Auction Centre.
